Crispy, delectable calamari, hot off the stove! Just a few ingredients and a few minutes to put together! You can buy a big bag of frozen calamari at most grocery stores or if you have an Asian grocer store near you, it will much cheaper!
• vegetable oil for frying
• 1 pound of frozen squid rings, thawed
• 2 cups of all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp of kosher salt
• 1 tsp of freshly ground black pepper
• 2 lemons, cut into wedges for serving
• Marinara sauce for serving
Thaw the frozen squid in the fridge according to directions. Next, mix the flour, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.Pour about 3 inches of the oil into a large, heavy pot. Place a thermometer in the oil and heat to 350° F. Working in small batches, toss the squid into the flour mixture to coat. Carefully add the squid to the oil and fry until crisp and a very pale golden color, about 2 minutes per batch.Using a spider or a slotted spoon, transfer the calamari to a paper towel lined plate, and fry the rest.
Place the fried calamari and lemon wedges on a serving plate. Sprinkle with salt. Serve with the marinara sauce.
