Quick, Homemade Garlic Bread

A beautiful, savory, quick garlic loaf! No rising, seconds of kneading, you can have warm, delicious homemade bread in under an hour! Very impressive at the table! Goes deliciously with soups and stews!

Make 2 loaves

• 3 1/4 cups of all purpose flour, sifted
• 2 Tbs of sugar
• 4 tsp of baking powder
• 1 tsp of salt
• 3 oz of cream cheese
• 1/4 cup of cold butter, cut into small pieces
• 1 cup of milk (whole or 2%)
• 1 egg
• 1 Tbs of melted butter
• 6 cloves of garlic, minced
• 2 tsp of paprika
• 1 egg yolk
• 2 tsp of water


In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Using a pastry blender, cut in cream cheese and 1/4 cup of butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg and add to the flour mixture. Using a fork, mix together until a soft dough forms and it starts pull away from the sides of the bowl.DSC09012Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead about 20 strokes until it’s thoroughly mixed. Shape into a ball and divide the dough in half.Roll each half into a 12 x 6 inch rectangle, brush each rectangle with the melted butter.Sprinkle each with half the paprika and half of the garlic. Make 2 inch cuts at 1 inch intervals along both of the long sides. Fold the strips into the center from each side. In a small bowl, beat the egg yolk and water and brush on the loaves. Using two spatulas on either end, carefully lift each loaf and place on separate baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 20 -25 minutes til lightly browned. The aroma of roasting garlic and baking bread is intoxicating!
