Tart Cherry Apple Crisp

DSC01538This always brings ooohs and aaahs! I make it every summer with my fresh cherries. It is one incredible dessert that you will make over and over again!


Fruit filling:
• 6 granny smith apples
• 1 can of tart red cherries, drained
• 1/2 cup of white sugar
• 3/4 cup of brown sugar
• 3 tsp of cinnamon
• 2 tsp of nutmeg

• 2 1/2 cups of flour
• 2 cups of brown sugar
• 1 cup of firm but not ice cold butter, cut in small pieces
• 1/2 cup of slivered or sliced almonds
• 1/4 cup of powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350°

Peel, core and slice the apples about 1/4 inch thick.
Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish and scatter in the apples and cherries.
In a medium bowl, mix white and brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Sprinkle over the apples and cherries.
In another bowl, mix the flour, 2 cups of brown sugar and the butter, rub it between your fingers until it forms small crumbles. Stir in the almonds.
Sprinkle it over the fruit evenly, all the way to the edges, it will form a crust.
Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, til golden brown.
Let cool about 20 minutes, sift powdered sugar lightly over the crust.
